How Do You Choose the Right Packaging Partner for Drone Transport?
For drone transport, choosing a packaging partner is not simply about finding a supplier that can produce a suitable case. Especially in defense applications, the packaging must be developed around the drone system, its sensitive components, the transport conditions and the requirements that apply to its operational environment.
This requires knowledge of materials, shock and vibration protection, military requirements and testing. These factors need to be considered early in the design process, because they determine choices such as the case construction, foam interior, fixation of components and the way the complete system is validated.
At Faes, we bring this knowledge together within our own engineering and production process. We already develop and manufacture drone packaging for suppliers within the defense sector, giving us practical experience with the specific challenges involved in protecting these systems. Our engineers translate product, transport and operational requirements into a packaging design and determine which materials, construction and testing approach are appropriate for the application.
Where relevant, requirements such as MIL-STD specifications are included in this process. Rather than treating testing or compliance as a final check, we use these requirements as input for the design and, where necessary, for the test plan and technical documentation.
This approach helps ensure that the packaging is not only designed around the dimensions of the drone, but around how the system actually needs to be transported, stored and deployed.
