How does Faes approach drone packaging?
At Faes, we have extensive experience in developing packaging solutions for drones and their supporting equipment. We do not design the packaging around the drone alone, but around the way the complete system will be transported, handled and deployed.
We start by looking at the complete use case: the drone configuration, vulnerable components, accessories and batteries, transport conditions, handling frequency and the environment in which the system will be used. A drone that is transported occasionally in a passenger vehicle, for example, requires a different solution from a system that travels frequently, is exposed to demanding conditions or needs to be ready for deployment within minutes.
For complex drone geometries, we can use 3D scanning to digitally capture the exact shape and dimensions of the equipment. This gives our engineers an accurate basis for designing the interior around the drone and its accessories. It also allows us to identify sensitive areas such as cameras, gimbals, sensors and connectors that should not be subjected to pressure or contact. The result is an interior in which the equipment is positioned precisely and supported where protection is actually needed.
This is why we see drone packaging as more than a protective case. The exterior, interior layout and operational use need to work together. The packaging should protect the equipment during transport, keep the complete system organised and make it practical to use once it reaches its destination.
