A good requirements package for your packaging takes everything into account
If you're having custom packaging developed for your product, the requirements package is an important starting point. But why really? And what does creating a requirements package actually get you? I'll be happy to explain it to you.
What exactly is a set of requirements?
In the requirements package, or program of requirements, you lay out all your requirements and criteria you have regarding the custom packaging you are having developed. You describe in detail all the minimum points that the packaging must meet. In addition, you also describe your wishes. One of our packaging specialists then translates all these requirements and wishes into the most suitable packaging solution.
What does it get you to create a set of requirements?
With a clear set of requirements, you make your packaging request very concrete. And the more concrete the better, because then you get a packaging that has been well thought out and meets all the requirements. It’s even better if a packaging not only complies, but even adds value to your supply chain. Such as smoother processes, cost savings, more turnover and very satisfied customers. Therefore, as packaging consultants, we ask a lot of questions in advance. Not only about the product, but also about all the processes and links in the chain that the packaging affects.
How does a set of requirements help us as consultants develop the best packaging?
The package of requirements gives direction to the packaging development process. You clearly define in advance the starting points for the packaging you want developed, which makes it easier for us as packaging specialists to translate this question into the most suitable packaging design. We present this design to you before the packaging goes into production. This already gives you a good idea of what the packaging will look like, and from there we can fine-tune the design even further.
What does the requirements package provide more insight into?
In all the preconditions the packaging must meet. To give some examples:
- What does the packaging need to protect against? (Breakage, dust, temperature or moisture?)
- Is the packaging intended for presentation, to take to a client or assignment, or for transportation?
- Is it a one-time or returnable package as a sustainable solution – Faes?
- What method of transportation do you use: by air, road or water?
- Does the product remain in the package during use?
- Are there batteries in it?
- Would you like to have the packaging personalized (printed)?
Of course, there are many other criteria that can be included in a set of requirements.
Do you always need a set of requirements for packaging?
A set of requirements is indispensable as far as I am concerned; it is a solid basis for finding the best packaging solution. Whether you come up with a customized packaging yourself or outsource the development to a specialist. The requirements package helps you to define step by step all the requirements that the packaging must meet.
