A damaged product is often immediately visible. The actual cause is not always as obvious. Damage may be caused by shocks and vibrations during transport, but also by incorrect fixation, repacking, unsuitable storage conditions or unclear instructions for unpacking and installation.

From risk analysis to suitable packaging
Based on the risk analysis, our engineers determine what level of protection the product actually requires. We translate the findings into a packaging design, clear specifications and practical packaging instructions. Where necessary, we test the solution so that you know in advance whether the packaging can withstand the conditions it may encounter during storage and transport.
Better packaging does not automatically have to be heavier or more expensive. The solution may also lie in improved product fixation, fewer packaging variants or a process that employees can carry out consistently every time.
What does this mean for your SLA?
Research involving three high-tech OEMs shows that standardisation within the packaging process can make a real difference. In one of the cases studied, the number of packaging variants was reduced from approximately 600 to 25, while packaging information was made more accessible to the logistics parties involved. During the same period, the proportion of registered logistics-related DOAs fell from 0.46 to 0.22 per cent.
The consequences of a DOA are also not limited to the damaged product itself. A replacement part may need to be delivered urgently, a service engineer may have to return to the site and additional inventory may be required to maintain availability. This directly affects response times, availability and other performance levels defined in an SLA.
