Imagine the real-time interaction possible in logistics between user, customer and supplier. Everyone in the supply chain knows at any time exactly where and in what condition the product is. Does that sound like the distant future? Not to us it doesn't. When the physical and digital supply chains are fully connected, real-time interaction is feasible.
In the Smart Packaging project, we are working with 20 other companies on smart solutions to prepare the Netherlands for this. You can read more about this in this article.
Smart Packaging is part of the Operational Program South Netherlands (OPZuid). This European subsidy program was set up to stimulate innovation within SMEs and strengthen cooperation between companies, knowledge institutions and governments. A diversity of companies, including Faes, are working together in the Smart Packaging project on the smart logistics of the future.
Together, we devise innovative solutions that will make the Netherlands stronger in packaging and prepare us for the logistics of the future. Such as smart packaging that informs the user about the condition of the packaged product. For example, the temperature, humidity or the expiration date reached. Especially for the food and medicine industry, this provides a wealth of information, with which they can greatly improve their yield.
In other sub-projects, companies devise algorithms to improve the packaging process. So, for example, to predict ordering behavior or to pick better and faster. And thus realize a smarter supply chain.
Faes is the specialist in the analysis and improvement of packaging processes in the supply chain. In this project, we were asked to optimize the order picking process in e-commerce together with Bright Cape, a company that realizes data-driven process improvements. Both Bright Cape and Faes use specific algorithms for process improvement. By linking these together, they strengthen each other in the right areas and we ensure that warehouse employees can now pick orders at lightning speed.
