This is Team Rembrandts
Early this year, FIRST, a global nonprofit organization that seeks to promote science and engineering to young people, launched a game that requires designing and building a man-sized robot. This FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) is one of the most prestigious robotics competitions for young people aged 15 to 25. Team Rembrandts, one of the participating teams consisting of combination of HBO, WO, MBO students and high school students, worked hard on a robot, which was presented on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015.
Development of a sponsorship case for Team Rembrandts
In 2013 we came in contact with Team Rembrandts; this ‘robotics team’ competes every year in a worldwide technical competition in the United States. At the time, they were looking for a customized case to transport their innovative robot safely and without damage; we developed this for them as a sponsor.
Faes was once again a sponsor of Team Rembrandts in 2018, and they once again asked us to collaborate on the engineering and production of a re-design of the flight case we designed for them five years earlier. I, Harold Pijs, am happy to tell you more about this great project.
A flight case that serves as a mobile workshop
Faes’ sponsorship means that we have developed two different flight cases for Team Rembrandts; a ROBOT case and a PIT case. Both cases consist of several separate cases that are used in ‘the pit’ and around the playing field. The cases are best described as a mobile workshop annex presentation stand, where the team can present and demonstrate their development in a professional manner.
Packing problem
Team Rembrandts was not only looking for packaging pur sang, but it also had to be enabled as a complete workstation. In addition, appearance and durability were also very important. With a simple wooden crate, the youngsters clearly did not settle!
Packaging Solution
Faes was immediately stimulated by this whole project and cooperation was soon a reality. The students had already brainstormed and offered our consultants their packaging concept. This concept was translated by our designers into a multifunctional flight case that exceeded expectations: a combination of transport device, programming table, robot table and presentation box in 1!
From engineering to production
After completing the engineering phase, we were able to move to production of both flight cases. In early 2019, Team Rembrandts planned a kick-off where friends, family and all partners involved could come and see their new game and their plans for the new season. The flightcases were presented here for the first time.
Apart from the beautiful end result, we experience the cooperation with these technical students as fantastic! At Faes, engineering is of paramount importance and we hold the profession dear. This is precisely why we find it so important to stimulate young people and offer them the opportunity to further discover this great profession.
