In recent years, we not only developed various packaging and flight cases for Medtronic, we also regularly think with them about how we can make their (packaging) processes more efficient and smarter. But we don’t stop at thinking, we also like to take over various activities related to the packaging process for our customers. This is also the case for Medtronic, where we now take care of the cleaning of their packaging.
Clean packaging of medical instruments; over and over again
Medtronic uses blue plastic boxes that are used to transport medical instruments to hospitals. After the instruments are used, they are returned in the same boxes. This operation causes the boxes to become contaminated with shipping stickers, creating confusion in the logistics process, which increases the likelihood of errors and delays. Medtronic previously cleaned these boxes in-house, which was incredibly time-consuming.
Faes takes the cleaning of plastic packaging completely out of your hands
Faes now relieves Medtronic by taking the complete cleaning process of the boxes out of its hands. In a specially developed room, the boxes are cleaned by means of dry ice blasting. This is a dry cleaning technique that uses blasting with cold, solid CO2 (dry ice). This is a requirement, as cleaning with moisture is strictly prohibited for these boxes.
After the cleaning process, the boxes look presentable again and can be used again without problems for the safe and hygienic transport of medical instruments.
Doesn’t this create a logistical hassle?
Every week an entire truck of contaminated boxes is unloaded at Faes. That same truck takes back the clean boxes cleaned the week before, so Medtronic can reuse them without worry. This process has been streamlined for years. As a result, Medtronic does not have to deal with these peripheral issues, and instead can focus on what they do best: relieving pain, restoring health and extending lives!
