A big reduction in time, damage and transportation costs with PackAssist for Philips Healthcare
Philips Healthcare in Best is a huge organization, where an awful lot of logistical movements take place every day in the complex supply chain for spare parts. In addition, they work with many different (and regularly new) supply chain partners. Each partner delivered goods in its own way. This regularly resulted in errors, damage and frustration and was also very inefficient.
In 2014, our Packaging People went to work for Philips to optimize and secure their packaging process. How much impact good packaging policy has on overall supply chain, they experienced at Philips Healthcare. Recently, we started working for Philips again, namely by also securing their ‘upstream process’ and also connecting Philips’ UPS chain partners.
Standardization and clear communication are the keys
It is through good synergy with chain partners that you can really make a difference. By connecting the chain partners to the same system (PackAssist), we have ensured that it is completely clear to every (new) partner how Philips would like spare parts to be packaged. That yielded all kinds of advantages:
- Unambiguous communication towards supply chain partners (suppliers).
- More efficient handling through standardization of packaging in the supply chain.
- Fewer DOAs (damage to spare parts).
- Transportation cost savings from volume reduction at UPS Louisville; much less “air” is transported.
Interview with Eric Armstrang; Director of Global Transportation & Packaging
Watch the video below in which Eric Ermstrang is interviewed. Eric is Director of Global Transportation & Packaging at Philips and he talks about his experiences with Faes and of course with our software: PackAssist.
3 large spare part distribution centers switch to PackAssist
Faes has connected UPS Louisville (USA) to PackAssist for repacking Philips Healthcare spare parts. In an earlier stage UPS Singapore and UPS Roermond were already connected. Meanwhile, the 3 major worldwide spare parts distribution centers of Philips Healthcare have all switched completely to PackAssist.
