KMWE shows good packaging management in practice

Faes is active as a packaging manager at Brainport Industries Campus. Our client KMWE also recently moved to the campus. At this new location, we will take on the role of packaging manager for all packaging flows. I - Bart van Dijck, Project Manager of this project - am happy to tell you more about this collaboration.

The collaboration with KMWE

KMWE is a group consisting of 5 companies, 3 of which are large. Besides the Netherlands, they also have branches in Malaysia, among other countries. Because they have outgrown their premises, it was time for a new location and a modernized strategy.

New location at Brainport Industries Campus

Since the square footage at Brainport Industries Campus is relatively expensive, good packaging management is indispensable. Especially as a supplier of large goods. KMWE develops parts that involve large packaging, a lot of volume and a lot of air. Think of parts within the aircraft industry. That is why we have devised an optimal plan whereby fewer square meters are simply needed for stock storage. But KMWE will also be more ‘in control’ because of the overview created and KMWE can bring more uniformity in the organization.

More overview using RFID

As soon as the plan was put into operation, we took over KMWE’s stock in the warehouses. Through the ERP system, we now receive orders automatically and shipment is initiated. In this way, we ensure that customers receive orders just-in-time.

A clear overview is crucial, and we maintain that with RFID chips in the label, which is attached to the packaging. Among other things, the RFID chip provides insight into the number of packages in stock, but also ensures that not everything has to be scanned by hand.

Faes' role within Brainport Industrie Campus

As chain director on the Brainport Industries Campus, we take care of the total internal logistics. We arrange all services around packaging, as well as in the field of packaging management. We supply the load carriers that drive around and also provide sufficient rotation bins in which all packaging is “indexed. This works using a track-and-trace principle; the system displays what is in the packaging.

Fourth Party Packaging

This is a new, far-reaching way of cooperation, in which we take on a 4P role: 4th Party Packaging. A very logical step for us, because we are convinced that this is the future. OEMs focus more and more on their core business and gather specialists (4Ps) around them who take over the management of non-core activities. The final management, of course, lies with the OEM, in this case KMWE.
